Tracks like “Walking Wounded” and “Captain Courageous” evoke Aldeburgh’s seascapes with tidal cymbal washes, birdsong electronics, and Tim Lapthorn’s trickling piano, while Paul Booth’s saxophones add power. Eddie Henderson’s gleaming trumpet, influenced by his time with Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi sextet, shines in complex time signatures and the Miles Davis-like muted tenderness of “Tumbledown,” though “Solace” and “Adrift” feel less gripping.
